Crimes of Communism must be denounced
Two statesmen again called for denouncing the crimes of Communism.
Former Estonian Prime Minister, famous face in Europe Mr. Mart Laar said in Germany:
“The main problem with achieving a common understanding of the history is the fact that crimes of Nazism are denounced, but that hasn’t happened to crimes of Communism. As we can’t justify the crimes of Nazism by fighting against Communism, we also can’t justify crimes of Communism by fighting against Nazism.”
Ukraine’s President Viktor Yushchenko called for denouncing crimes of Stalinism and Soviet Union:
“We ask everyone, especially the Russian Federation, to denonce the crimes of Stalinism and totalitary Soviet Union,” he said.
Yushchenko’s call came on the day Ukraine commemorated the Great Famine or Holodomor, during which the Soviet regime brutally murdered up to 14 million people, at its height 25,000 people a day.
Until Russia is prepared to take responsibility of its predecessor’s crimes, acknowledge them and denounce them, Russia shouldn’t be regarded as a full member of the free world. The sad part is, many in Europe do not realize that Russia is still the same Soviet Union it used to be 20 years ago by not facing its past honestly, or even worse – they find it acceptable.
More people should watch the great Latvian documentary “The Soviet Story“. You can find the film itself here.
