European Parliament finally condemns crimes of communism
The European Parliament yesterday finally condemned the crimes of communism and proposed 23rd of August as a common remembrance day of the victims of totalitarian regimes.
While crimes of nazism have been condemned over and over again in recent 60 years, there have always been factions that justify communism and its crimes. Now finally European Parliament accepted a resolution that condemns the crimes of all totalitarian regimes:
The House condemns strongly and unequivocally all crimes against humanity and the massive human rights violations committed by all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes. The European Parliament extends to the victims of these crimes and their family members its sympathy, understanding and recognition of their suffering.

The House also calls for the proclamation of 23 August as a Europe-wide Remembrance Day for the victims of all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, to be commemorated with dignity and impartiality.
23rd of August is a sad anniversary – on this date, 1939, Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed mutual non-agression pact and a secret and illegal protocol that divided Europe into zones of influence of the two evil regimes. It’s a very appropriate date for a remembrance day.
