Boris is one of the most influential people in the world
The Time magazine has compiled another 100-list of the most influential people in the world and to a somewhat surprise, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson is among those 100 people.
I don’t really know how influential Boris is, in global arena. I mean, he’s just a Mayor of a large European city. But he is a definite character who’s impossible to dislike.
Boris is a Tory, but he’s not like a Tory. One might say he’s not really a Tory at all, considering his quite liberal policies and stances. And I don’t agree with him on pretty much anything really, nor have I agreed with what he has done in his first year as a Mayor of London. I’m much more right-wing than he is, despite we both are of the same party.
But he has something. He has charisma, panache, he has something that makes him impossible to dislike. I mean, you can disagree with his politics, but you’ve got to like him. He’s like Figaro – here, there, and here. He always finds time to get everywhere, he always finds time to talk with the people, and he likes to be a people’s man – what a good politician must be.
Also, I think he’s sincere. He means what he says and does what he means. And sincerity isn’t a common quality for politicians. But at the same time, he’s not stupid as many politicians are who say whatever they think and often before they think. He’s still a politician.
Boris’ boyish charm and never-combed hair are also his trademarks that Londoners love. If you see that white broom of hair, you always know who that is, and you always feel like you can actually go to him and talk to him, about whatever’s on your mind. And he’ll always listen.
I love our Mayor. I don’t agree with him mostly, but he’s a good mayor and people adore him. And I guess that is what makes a person influential. So he has a well-deserved place in the Time 100 list.
