Everybody must vote tomorrow
I think many people all over Europe think that European Parliament elections aren’t something important. Low turnouts in these events show such attitude vividly.
Why vote?
But the sad truth is, in some areas European Parliament is even more important than local parliament of an EU country. The influence of European Union is growing on its members every day, the EU wants to have a “constitution” without asking about it from its citizens, the EU wants to have an unelected presidency and on the track the EU is right now, soon they are going to control everything without giving any say to local governments nor the people.
I’m not an euroskeptic, but an euro-realist. I think that the original idea of European Union was a good one and I think being part of the Union is good for its members. But I am very much worried about what has the Union become by now. Current European Union is so far away from its roots, and I can honestly say that it’s not the European Union I wanted. And I think many people agree with me.
In order to get European Union back to its roots, in order to make sure the Union doesn’t entirely neglect democracy and freedom, it’s very important to vote tomorrow. And moreover, it’s even more important to vote for the right people, the right party.
Who to vote for?
The main thing – vote according to your conscience. Think through the positions of all parties and candidates, think what they have done before and what potential do they have. Also, think very hard if you want the same people who have ruled this country for past 12 years to be responsible for anything ever again. Yes, we’re voting for European Parliament, not Westminster, but the bigger is the responsibility of those people who will decide over matters at European level for the next five years.
If you’re considering voting for UKIP, I’d suggest you think about that. UKIP, as we know, isn’t really a party, but a single issue pressure group. UKIP’s main goal is for the UK to secede from European Union. But can they really accomplish that? First of all, it’s not for EP to decide if UK is member of EU or not. So, they can’t really do anything to that end in the European Parliament. Second of all, even if the whole UK votes for UKIP, they’d still be in minority in the European Parliament and wouldn’t be able to change anything, nor stand up for the interests of the UK, because regarding other issues other than the membership in the EU, they actually don’t have any plan or programme. Thus, they’d be just a worthless bunch of MEPs.
In my opinion, a vote for UKIP instead of Tories would be a wasted vote, therefore. We need constructive euro-realists in the EP who actually can influence processes. And those constructive euro-realists are the Conservatives.
So, if you really care about Britain’s future, her future in the European Union, and also about the future of the Union itself, then the best you can do is go out tomorrow, vote, and vote for Conservatives.
