Russia: WWII was Poland’s fault

4th June 2009 By Sten One Comment

Russia has taken one step forward in creating its own “true” history by officially saying now that World War II was Poland’s fault. Russian Defence Ministry sources also said that Germany didn’t have a decisive role in eruption of the war, Estonian Daily Newspaper reports (translation follows).

“Second World War erupted because Poland declined to give in to Hitler’s demands to give up some of its territory to the fascists,” Defence Ministry sources were quoted saying. “Eastern European countries that were subsequently occupied, are themselves to blame for being on the way.”

Russian war historian, polkovnik (Colonel) Sergey Kovalyov said that German demands were “very moderate”: they “only” demanded that Danzig (Gdansk) would be given to Germany, and they wanted to build railway through Poland in order to make train connections with East Prussia more efficient.

“Germans wanted to reunite their historical homeland and were in majority in Danzig, which was taken away from them by the Treaty of Versaille,” Kovalyov claimed.

The fact that Poland declined to give in to Germany’s demands was, according to Kovalyov, because of Poland’s “derzhava politics”. As for the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, signed in 1939, according to Kovalyov, the purpose of it was “assuring the security of Eastern Europe”.

I am shocked. I’m more than shocked, I’m appalled. Before I expressed regret that communist China is regarded as equal partner and member of the international community, but this… This is far worse. To forge history like that and then claim that everyone has to believe it’s the ultimate truth OR ELSE…

It’s just utterly disgusting and offensive to all the people who suffered from the cooperation between Stalin and Hitler that lead to the war in which millions of people were killed, it’s offensive to the countries Soviet Union and Germany occupied and it should be offensive to Russians themselves. Too bad Russian leadership doesn’t know the definition of ’shame’.
