Koenigsegg buys Saab
Interestingly, the recession has hit the producers of common cars – GM being the worst example; but supercar makers are continuing to do well.
Swedish supercar producer Koenigsegg have agreed to buy Saab from the bankrupt automaker General Motors, tentative agreement on the deal was signed today.
According to AFP, Koenigsegg have just 45 employees and produce 18 high-end sports cars a year, each of which cost over £845,000. In comparison, Saab employ about 3,400 people in Sweden and they sold 93,000 cars in 2008.
The sale of Saab to Koenigsegg includes an expected £365 million funding commitment from the European Investment Bank, guaranteed by the Swedish Government.
Saab owe $781 million to GM, £27 million to Swedish Government and £50 million to other creditors.
Koenigsegg were founded in 1994 by Swedish businessman Christian von Koenigsegg.
Koenigsegg CCX is currently third on Top Gear power lap board with the lap time of 1:17.6.
