Microsoft to give Win7 for free… to some
Microsoft are going to give their new operating system Windows 7 away for free to people who buy Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate computers starting tomorrow, the AP reports.
That means if one buys one of those versions between tomorrow and 22nd October, when Windows 7 officially becomes available, one should contact the computer manufacturer to get a free upgrade from Vista to equal 7.
Microsoft also said that the prices for Windows 7 are largely in line with those for Vista. To drum up demand, Microsoft also said it is taking limited pre-orders for Windows 7, selling some for as little as $50 (£31), according to the report.
When Windows 7 becomes available, upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium will cost $120 (£74), Professional $200 (£123) and Ultimate $220 (£136). The cost is identical regardless of whether the upgraded machine was running Windows XP or Windows Vista.
