A Japanese spacecraft detected radioactive substance of uranium on the Moon’s surface, along with thorium, potassium, magnesium, silicon, calcium, titanium and iron, the Telegraph reports.
The space probe Kaguya detected the substances with a gamma-ray spectrometer.
The discovery opens up the possibility of mining operations on a commercial basis or even nuclear power plants being constructed on the Moon.
Uranium supplies on Earth are expected to last for another 100 years, although further deposits are still to be discovered.

Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin admitted that she would love to run against President Barack Obama in 2012 elections.
Former running mate of Republican Senator John McCain said that she was even confident of victory, the Times reports. “If it were a long race that required a lot of endurance I’d win,” she said.

A vicar, 61-year-old Alex Brown, was arrested on suspicion of organizing 180 sham weddings for illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe, the Daily Mail reports.
He was one of four people being held today, as well as a Ukrainian man, a Latvian woman – believed to be one of the brides – and an Armenian male, the newspaper says.

As Firefox 3.5 came out yesterday, I, like millions of others upgraded to the latest version. However, the sad fact is, the browser may be faster than its predecessor, as Mozilla claim, but it uses much more memory than any other main browser on the market.

A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit near the Greek island of Crete on Wednesday, CNN reports.
It struck at 12:30 pm local time (10:40 British time), the epicentre was about 80 miles off the city of Iraklion.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
An earthquake with a 6.7 magnitude is capable of causing significant damage, especially in areas of poor construction.

According to sources in Iran, six supporters of Iranian opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi have been hanged by authorities.
Speaking after Iran’s top legislative body upheld the election victory of incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, sources in Iran told Jerusalem Post that the hangings took place in the holy city of Mashhad on Monday.
There was no independent confirmation of the report.

Madrid’s city hall on Monday stripped former Spanish dictator Francisco Franco of his title as honorary mayor and adopted son of the capital, 33 years after his death began the transition to democracy, Reuters reports.

Demand pushed the price of a rare dateless 20p coin to £7,100 on eBay yesterday, the Daily Mail reports.
Many sellers are offering purchasers the chance to “buy it now” at prices of up £6,200.

Owners of Apple’s new iPhone 3G S have reported that tsome handsets gets so hot it glows pink, the Telegraph reports.
The problem appears to particularly affect the white handsets of Apple’s new turbo-charged device, which is twice as fast as its predecessor, the iPhone 3G. Dozens of users have reported overheating issues, with some iPhone owners unable to pick up the device because the handset gets so hot.
