Russia tried to inflintrate UK airspace 18 times

10th July 2009 By Sten No Comment

Russian military aircraft have attempted to enter the airspace around Britain airspace without permission 18 times over the last two years – how can anyone trust a country that behaves like that or, even worse, regard that country as an equal partner?

According to the Telegraph, the Commons Defence Committee said the actions were “not the actions of a friendly nation”.

While the flights did not pose a direct threat to the security of Britain or NATO, the committee said they could endanger civil aircraft flying in the same area and risked causing serious accidents.

“They are not the actions of a friendly nation and risk escalating tension. Russia should not be making such flights without informing the appropriate authorities,” the committee said. “The Government should take a more robust approach in making clear to Russia that its continued secret incursions by military aircraft into international airspace near to the UK is not acceptable behaviour.”

Agreeing on anything with Russia seems especially redundant and stupid in the light of this.
