Scrappage scheme for TV – what next?

19th August 2009 By Sten No Comment

Customers who return an old TV are being offered up to £150 off the cost of a new set, the Daily Mail reports.

The scrappage scheme by Sony mirrors a Government initiative for cars, in which drivers are offered a £2,000 discount for trading up. The move also coincides with industry calls for a more widespread scheme for domestic appliances such as fridges and washing machines.

The British Retail Consortium wants the Government to waive the 15 per cent VAT on white goods when customers trade up.

I really, really hope that soon they’ll have a scrappage schemes for knickers and socks, too.
