Schumacher supports his old boss Jean Todt for FIA presidency
Seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher supports his former boss at Ferrari, Jean Todt for FIA presidency, saying that Todt would not simply oversee a continuation of Max Mosley’s regime, ITV reports.
Now with just over a week to go until Todt goes up against Ari Vatanen in the FIA vote, Schumacher has written to the presidents of all the member clubs that will take part in the election to redouble the reasons for his support. He insisted that the Frenchman has his own ideas and would start a clear new era at the governing body.
“I know there are some people who say that Jean’s presidency would be a continuation of Max’s leadership,” Schumacher wrote. “I can only tell these people that they do not know Jean. He has his own expert knowledge, his own agenda and his own leadership style. From my experience he will implement his plans for the FIA in his own way, as a team player.”
The FIA presidential vote takes places next Friday, 23rd October, at the FIA’s headquarters in Paris.

Michael Schumacher is a legend. Jean Todt brought him to Ferrari and oversaw Schumacher’s period of Ferrari dominance. No wonder Schumacher supports Todt.
I hope Todt is elected. A great guy.
Keep up the great blog Sten. You the man :)
Schumi is a legend, absolutely, and so is Jean Todt, no question about it.
However, if we look at Ari Vatanen’s profile, then he’s been a rally champion and a politician as well. He’s a true conservative and he has served two terms in European Parliament.
I think that running FIA needs knowledge in both motorsports and politics, as much of what is going on today in sports is rather politics than sports. So, a person who has knowledge in both fields can do rather great there.
But, Jean Todt has been a team manager in Formula One, where he also had to deal with a lot of politics. And moreover, it was indeed the sports politics, not something abstract.
I haven’t got into researching on their views on Formula One, which is the FIA area that interests me the most, I just hope they could turn back the clock and get to where F1 was in the 90ies, when it was much more enjoyable.
But I do think that both of these men would do a good job as the FIA President. Both of them possess excellent qualities for the job. So I don’t mind either of them winning. I hope they both make a good leader.
I might change my opinion, of course, once one of them gets elected and starts doing things his way :) But until that, I’ll just sit back and relax.
Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate them very much :)
