The producer of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Matrix”, Barrie Osborne, is backing a new, £91.5 million film on Islam’s Prophet Mohammad, the aim of the movie is to “bridge cultures”.
Filming of the English-language movie is set to start in 2011 with Osborne as its producer, Ynet reports.
However, Prophet Mohammad himself won’t be depicted in the film, in accordance with Islamic rules.

Cameron signals no referendum on Lisbon Treaty

Conservative leader David Cameron signalled that a Conservative Government would be unable to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty once it is ratified, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Cameron said that once the document is endorsed by all 27 EU members, it will “not be a treaty” and will instead be part of European law.
Only the Czech Republic is still to ratify the treaty, which will create a new European President and end British vetoes in more than 50 areas of EU policy. However, the Czechs are likely to sign later this month…

Miliband thinks it’s possible to work with Russia

Foreign Secretary David Miliband promised in Moscow that Britain will work with Russia but insisted the countries would not “paper over” their differences, ITN reports.
Miliband, who is the first British Foreign Secretary to visit Moscow since Jack Straw in 2004, welcomed increasing “common ground” between the two countries.

BA cabin crew staff threaten to strike

Festive holidaymakers could find their Christmas holidays disrupted if the threat of industrial action by British Airways cabin crew staff becomes reality, politics.co.uk reports.
A dispute over contract changes has led to the balloting for strike action, the result of which will be announced on 14th December. Under industrial action rules a strike could take place from 21st December as a result.

Home Secretary Alan Johnson admitted today that the Labour Government have made mistakes over immigration policy, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Orange to sell iPhone, but competition doesn’t lower prices by much

Orange have confirmed that Apple’s iPhone smartphone will be available to their customers from 10th November, which is effectively marking the end of a two-year exclusive deal with O2, however, the competition does not bring the prices down by much.
Orange said they would offer the handset to pay as you go, pay monthly and business customers, the BBC reports.

The European Commission accuse the UK Government of failing to protect citizens’ privacy, the Commission say that the Government should have done more to guarantee online privacy when trials of a controversial ad-serving system were carried out in 2006, the BBC reports.

Cameron pledges to slash £4.5bn NHS bill by a third

Conservative leader David Cameron stepped up his bid to make the Tories the party of the NHS today by promising reforms to cut costs and extend patient power, the Daily Mail reports.

Hamid Karzai declared elected President of Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) declared incumbent President Hamid Karzai the winner of the 2009 presidential election today after cancelling the election run-off due to take place on Saturday; yesterday Karzai’s rival Abdullah Abdullah dropped out of the race.
The commission came to a consensus on the decision for several reasons, including security and money, commission president Azizullah Lodin said, according to CNN.

Police quiz Harriet Harman over mobile phone crash

Police have been questioned Labour’s deputy leader Harriet Harman for allegedly leaving the scene of a traffic accident, which allegedly happened when she was driving while using her mobile phone.

Williams’ team manager Frank Williams confirmed today that Brazilian Rubens Barrichello and German Nico Hülkenberg will be the team’s drivers next season.

Iran is looking for a new capital, because seismologists have warned that current capital Tehran is liable to be struck by a catastrophic earthquake in the foreseeable future.

Bridgestone to quit F1 after 2010 season

Japanese tyre-maker Bridgestone Corp are quitting Formula One at the end of the 2010 season, following other high-profile firms citing the global downturn, Sky News reports.
Bridgestone said today that they would end their contract as the official tyre supplier to the FIA, raising questions over who would replace them after French rival Michelin pulled out in 2006 and US maker Goodyear left in 1998.
