India tells West to stop eating beef

India has urged the West to give up eating beef to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions responsible for “global warming”, the Daily Telegraph reports.
India’s Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh that said if the world abandoned beef consumption, emissions would be dramatically reduced and “global warming” would slow down.

The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, United States say they are obligated to keep paying retirement benefits to six priests who church officials have confirmed are paedophiles, the AP reports.
The diocese filed for bankruptcy protection last month. Officials had told the judge the church would not make any payments to priests accused of sexual abuse without a court order, even if the abuse had not been substantiated.

Oprah Winfrey to end her talk show in 2011

Oprah Winfrey, one of the most influential and highly paid women on television, will end her popular daytime talk show in 2011, Reuters reports.
She is expected to move to cable network OWN, or Oprah Winfrey Network, a Los Angeles-based joint venture she formed with Discovery Communications, when her current syndication deal for “The Oprah Winfrey Show” runs out in 2011. OWN will be available in more than 70 million homes.

US Senator John Kerry’s daughter was arrested for suspicion of drink-driving yesterday in Holliwood, the New York Daily News reports.
Alexandra Forbes Kerry, the older of the senator’s two daughters, was pulled over for a traffic violation about 12:40 am. She was arrested for driving under the influence, and later released on $5,000 (£3,000) bail.

Sixteen senior Israeli policemen are being brought to the UK to take part in a special training programme to improve their relations with the country’s Arab citizens, the Jewish Chronicle reports.

Procter & Gamble are recalling Vicks Sinex nasal spray in the United Kingdom, US and Germany after finding it contained bacteria, CNN reports.
Procter & Gamble said that they announced the voluntary recall after finding the bacteria in a small amount of product made at a plant in Germany.
There have been no reports of illness from the bacteria, but it could cause serious infections for people with weakened immune systems or those with chronic lung conditions …

Venezuelan troops blew up two foot bridges that connect the country with Colombia, aggravating tensions along the border that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said could lead to war, Bloomberg reports.

Healthy children between six months and five years old will be vaccinated against swine flu, as the latest weekly bulletin showed a sharp rise in patient deaths and the number of children being admitted to hospital, the Guardian reports.
The overall number of new cases showed a second successive weekly fall. Health officials estimate there were 55,000 new cases this week in England compared with 64,000 last week, there was a slight drop in Scotland.

Giuliani mulls Senate run

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is considering a run for the US Senate seat held by freshman Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, Bloomberg reports.
Giuliani, 63, doesn’t intend to run for Governor of New York in the 2010 campaign, two sources said. Instead, Giuliani would seek the Senate seat in next year’s election.
