Ferrari to unveil new car on 28th January

Ferrari are to launch their 2010 Formula One car on Thursday, 28th January, autosport.com reports.
The team recently revealed that their new challenger will be designated the 281, and will make its track debut at the first post-testing ban running at Valencia on 1st February.
Ferrari are determined to mount a resurgence in 2010, having halted development on their frustrating 2009 car early in the season in order to pour maximum effort into this year’s machine.

Räikkönen’s sour grapes: WRC title “more valuable”

Former Formula One pilot Kimi Räikkönen says winning the World Rally Championship would mean more to him than having taken the Formula 1 title, autosport.com reports.

Briatore’s lifetime ban from F1 overturned in court

Former Renault F1 team principal Flavio Briatore is free to return to Formula One after a French court overturned his lifetime ban from motorsport today, sportinglife.com reports.
The FIA handed the former Renault team principal the stringent suspension in September for his role in the crashgate scandal.
The 59-year-old Italian took his case to the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris claiming the FIA did not have legal grounds to issue him with a wholesale ban.

Infamous former Renault Formula One pilot Nelson Piquet Jr will complete the driver lineup of the new Campos team in 2010, Motorsport.com reports.
The 24-year-old Brazilian’s contract is for three years, ensuring a lineup of famous surnames, after his countryman Bruno Senna also signed for 2010 with the Spanish outfit.
Piquet’s seat follows the 15% purchase of the Campos-Meta team by his namesake and father, the triple world champion of the 80s.

Schumi signs one-year deal with Mercedes to return to Formula 1

Seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher signed a one-year deal to return to Formula One with Mercedes GP for the 2010 season, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Having retired in 2006, Schumacher, who turns 41 on 3rd January, will be paid seven million euros to be on the grid when the new season starts with the Bahrain Grand Prix on 14th March.

Silverstone British GP ticket price likely to double

Tickets to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone are likely to double in price as a result of the deal the circuit agreed this month to guarantee the race a place on Formula 1’s calendar until 2026, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Bet between Virgin and Lotus: loser serves as stewardess on winner’s plane

Lotus F1 principal Tony Fernandes and Virgin Racing’s owner Sir Richard Branson agreed that the principal of team that gains less points at next year’s Formula One championship will serve as a stewardess on winner’s airline.
Fernandes, the founder and CEO of AirAsia, said last week that his new Malaysian-backed team had to finish ahead of Branson’s Virgin Racing “otherwise I will retire and kill myself”, Reuters reports.

Renault to continue racing in F1 after selling majority

Renault will race on in Formula One next years as the French car company sold most of the shares of the F1 team to Luxembourg businessman Gerard Lopez and retained only 25%.

Virgin GP enlist Brazilian Lucas di Grassi

Virgin Formula One team (formerly Manor F1) enlisted Brazilian driver, former Renault’s reservist Lucas di Grassi to compete alongside German pilot Timo Glock.
Di Grassi became Renault’s reserve driver in 2009, but will now make his F1 race debut with Virgin, the BBC reports. The 25-year-old finished runner-up to Glock in the 2007 GP2 Series, F1’s feeder competition.

Silverstone sign 17-year deal for British F1 Grand Prix

Silverstone have agreed a 17-year deal to host the British Grand Prix from 2010, ensuring the prestigious race is not axed from the Formula 1 calendar, the BBC reports.

Kimi Räikkönen to drive Citroën’s WRC car next year

Finnish former Formula One driver Kimi Räikkönen will drive a Red Bull-backed Citroën in the World Rally Championship next year, ITV reports.

Former world champion, Canadian Jacques Villeneuve looks set to join the new Lotus Formula One team next season with the outfit expected to announce their line-up next week, planet-f1.com reports.

BMW have agreed to sell their Formula 1 team back to Peter Sauber, on condition that the team receive an entry for 2010, autosport.com reports.
The German car maker announced earlier this year that they were pulling out of Formula 1, but said that they had agreed a deal with Swiss company Qadbak, who was to run the team in the future. BMW said on Friday, however, that the Qadbak deal would not be completed.
