As US President Barack Obama promised the Pope yesterday to try to reduce the number of abortions in the States, a new poll found that 86 per cent of Americans want restrictions to abortions.

US President Barack Obama promised Pope Benedict XVI yesterday that he would try to reduce the number of abortions in the United States, the Daily Telegraph reports.
“The pontiff told me that President Obama affirmed his personal commitment to try to reduce the number of abortions in the United States,” Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, said.

Spanish roman catholic church have started a new offensive in a battle over plans by the ruling Socialists to liberalise the country’s strict abortion law, the Times reports.
The Spanish Bishops’ Conference (CEE) urged all Catholic MPs in the Lower House of Parliament to vote against a bill to allow abortion on demand, the newspaper says.
