Citizenship approvals up by two thirds

Foreign nationals are being handed a British passport every two minutes after a sharp jump in approvals for citizenship, the Daily Telegraph reports.
A total of 54,430 migrants were granted British citizenship between July and September this year – the equivalent of more than 600 people every day. It means the country remains on course to hand out more than 200,000 passport to foreign workers, family members and others who have been allowed to settle in …

Immigrants who don’t understand English have been able to buy language certificates that give them the right to settle in Britain, the Sunday Times reports.
An investigation by newspaper found that staff at English language colleges in London and Birmingham have been offering migrants who speak little or no English Home Office-regulated English and Citizenship certificates for £250 each. Tests are rigged to allow almost anyone to pass.

British actor Liam Neeson decided to become an American citizen, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Neeson said that the US reaction to his wife’s death earlier this year helped him decide. He said he was still a proud Irishman, but the warmth from well wishers the other side of the Atlantic prompted him to seek citizenship.
Neeson’s wife, actress Natasha Richardson, died in March following a skiing accident in Quebec, Canada.

In an outrageous development it has emerged that migrants will get a British passport quicker if they stand on picket lines or knock on doors, asking people to vote for Labour, the Daily Mail reports.
The Home Office, which was up to only recently led by infamous money-waster Jacqui Smith, says that trade union activism and political canvassing should count towards the planned new system of ‘earned citizenship’, according to the newspaper.
